Name: Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-wing starfighterĬlassification: Space superiority starfighter This was a move which many imperial officers and even the likes of Wilhuff Tarkin viewed unfavourably due to the TIE’s clear inferiority compared to the V-wing. After the downfall of the Galactic Republic and rise of the Galactic Empire, the V-wing saw service with the Imperial Navy till it was phased out completely in favour of the new TIE line of fighters by 14 BBY. It entered service with the Galactic Republic Navy’s Starfighter Corps in the final year of the infamous Clone Wars of 22 to 19 BBY and proved popular with Clone Pilots. Armed with laser cannons that punch well above their weight, a very sturdy hull, and superb speed & agility rivalling that of the Eta-2 Jedi interceptor, the V-wing was designed to fulfil the roles of a light interceptor guarding important bases and to act as an escort fighter for larger assault starfighters & bombers and starships. The Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-wing, commonly referred to simply as the V-wing starfighter, was a space superiority starfighter manufactured by Kuat Systems Engineering, a subsidiary of the famous Kuat Drive Yards.
